    An update from Ms Bush

It has been a really positive first week back.

The children have settled back into school routines and it has been lovely to see them all looking so smart in their uniforms. I have also been witnessing lots of lovely learning taking place across the school and I look forward to welcoming you into Valley in our upcoming Reading Cafes.

    Year R

This week in Reception, we have read Harry and His Bucket Full of Dinosaurs goes to School. We have also created some fantastic dinosaur Playdoh models and have even started to form different phonic sounds in sand and glitter. We have learnt so much all ready!

    Year 1

Welcome to Year 1! We have had a super busy start to the term and have begun learning across all areas of the curriculum. Ms Freezer was particularly impressed with our Art and is looking forward to being more creative as the year progresses. On Thursday we had a surprise Bushcraft lesson where we all learnt how to saw a piece of wood - amazing for our first full week back! Bring on the rest of the year!

    Year 2

This week in year two we enjoyed searching for bugs outside during Bushcraft. In English we have been practising how to write the perfect sentence. We finished by taking selfies on the computer and writing a paragraph all about ourselves.

    Year 3

We have had a wonderful week in Y3 and thoroughly enjoyed learning about the Stone Age and Rocks. We have been sharpening up our grammar skills in English and learning all about the environment in our Taught Reading sessions. We are looking forward to a relaxing weekend and a new school week!

    Year 4

Year 4 have settled in beautifully during the first week of term. We have explored Rivers in Geography and Studied the Anglo-Saxons in History. We had great fun developing football skills in PE, and started to write our own poetry in English.

    Year 5

Year 5 have been up to lots of fantastic learning! We are very lucky to have Karate this half term, which we will do every Friday. The children really enjoyed their first lesson, where they learned how to safely punch without contact and block. We have also started all our topics for this half term: in history, we are learning about Ancient Greece; in Geography, we are learning about continents and countries and in Science, we are learning about different materials.

    Year 6

Year 6 have settled in so well to their new top floor home, where they are really working hard, learning lots and being polite to all the adults as well as each other. They have started the year by writing their autobiographies, working on place value and timelines in maths and history, reading the fabulous "Rooftoppers" by Katharine Rundell, as well as thinking hard about their new science topic of electricity. In French we have begun talking about where we live, interspersed with some language games. We are all looking forward to the trips and I am looking forward to meeting all parents in a few weeks at our parents evenings.

    Starship

Starship has been learning about rainforests, this term's topic. We have loved reading The Tin Forest in English. We have enjoyed working in our artbooks, developing our concentration with quiet drawing.
